One of the definitions of the word excellence is “a high quality”, so we will assume that serving the Lord is serving Him with a high quality, that is, we need to strive so that everything we do is something of quality. One of the best verses for the definition of excellence in serving as a high quality is Colossians 3:23-24 which says:

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for it is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”

What is translated for us in Portuguese as “heart” is the Greek word “ψυχῆς” “psychēs” which means “the vital force that animates the body” “the mind” “life” In other words, the writer wants to say that everything we do for the Lord must be done with all our strength, mind, life, that is, with a high quality because we are doing it for Him and not for men.

Along with excellent service, we need to serve with joy, this is what Psalm 100:2 clearly says, which emphasizes:

“Serve the Lord with joy; come before him with singing.”

When the Bible talks about joy, it does not say it in a suggestion, but rather as a command.

Philippians 4:4 states:

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I say it again: Rejoice!”

The word joy in this verse, which is the Greek word χαίρω
chairó, is in the present tense in the imperative mood. This means that Paul exhorts us to have joy continually and that this is not a suggestion, but rather an imperative, an ordinance.

At the time that Paul wrote this letter, he was in prison, going through afflictions and sufferings, yet Paul was joyful in the Lord and prayed for his brothers to be so. Because Paul knew that he was serving the Church of Philippi and that he should serve the Church of the Lord with joy.

In the same way, we need to understand that regardless of our circumstances, we must be joyful because we are serving the Church of the Lord. Furthermore, we must be joyful because through our lives serving the Lord many people will be reconciled with Christ and will have their spiritual lives awakened and transformed.

Excelência e alegria no servir

Umas das definições da palavra excelência é “uma qualidade elevada”, sendo assim, partiremos do pressuposto que servir ao Senhor é servi-lo com uma qualidade elevada, isto é, precisamos nos esforçar para que tudo o que realizarmos seja algo com qualidade.

Um dos melhores versículos para a definição de excelência no servir como uma qualidade elevada é Colossenses 3:23-24 que diz:

Tudo o que fizerem, façam de todo o coração, como para o Senhor, não para os homens, sabendo que receberão do Senhor a recompensa da herança, pois é a Cristo, o Senhor, a quem vocês servem.”

O que é traduzido para nós em português como “coração” é o vocábulo grego “ψυχῆς” “psychēs” que significa “a força vital que anima o corpo” “a mente” “a vida”

Em outras palavras o escritor quer dizer que tudo o que fazemos para o Senhor deve ser realizado com toda a nossa força, mente, vida, ou seja, com uma elevada qualidade por estamos fazendo para ele e não para homens.

Juntamente com um serviço de excelência nós precisamos servir com alegria, isso é que diz nitidamente Salmos 100:2 que enfatiza:

“Sirvam ao Senhor com alegria, apresentem-se diante dele com cânticos.’

Quando a Bíblia aborda sobre alegria, ela não diz isso em um grau de sugestão, mas sim de mandamento. Filipenses 4:4 alega:

“Alegrem-se sempre no Senhor. Repito: alegrem-se!”

A palavra alegria nesse versículo que é o vocábulo grego χαίρω chairó, está no presente no modo imperativo. O que significa que Paulo nos exorta a ter alegria de forma contínua e que isso não é uma sugestão, mas sim um imperativo, uma ordenança.

Na ocasião que Paulo escreveu essa carta ele estava preso passando por aflições e sofrimentos, mesmo assim Paulo estava alegre no Senhor e assim rogava para os irmãos estarem. Porque Paulo sabia que estava servindo a Igreja de Filipos e que deveria servir a Igreja do Semhor com alegria. Do mesmo modo precisamos compreender que independente das nossas circunstâncias devemos estar alegres porque estamos servindo a Igreja do Senhor.

Ademais, nós devemos estar alegres porque por meio das nossas vidas servindo ao Senhor diversas pessoas vão se reconciliar com Cristo e terão suas vidas espirituais despertadas e transformados.
